Are you leveraging tools in Nutshell like scheduled email sequences or bulk email templates to increase your brand awareness? Some organizations require an 'unsubscribe' or 'opt-out' option in every email we send, making it easy for our prospects to let us know when it's time to stop talking to them. Follow the instructions below to implement this courtesy link in every email you send from Nutshell!
Step 1: Create an 'Unsubscribe' Lead custom field
Click here to create a new Lead custom field. You can call this Lead custom field 'Unsubscribed', and then choose a decision type. Include decisions 'Yes' and 'No'.
Step 2: Create your unsubscribe form
Google Forms is one of the many survey forms you can use to create your opt-out form. We like Google forms because it integrates beautifully with Nutshell via Zapier on a Starter plan.
Click here for instructions on how to set up a Google Form.
You will need to create a form field for your prospects email address.
Pro tip: email your survey to a test address to make sure your fields are configured correctly! When you are happy with it, you can add your unsubscribe link to your email signature in Nutshell.
Step 3: Connect your form to Nutshell via Zapier
Zapier is the glue between software systems, and we love using it because setup is stress-free! You can click here to get started with building your automation in Zapier between Google forms and Nutshell.
The first step in Zapier is to create a 'trigger' for a new opt-out form entry.
When you add the next step, Zapier will ask you to enter your email address and Nutshell API key. You can create a new Nutshell API key by clicking here. Kindly select the 'API key + user impersonation' option.
Copy the full link, and use it to connect your Zapier account with Nutshell.
Next, add a step in your Zapier template to update an existing Lead in Nutshell.
Add a search step so Nutshell can locate the Lead associated with your unsubscribed customer.
Click 'ok, add it!'
Map the customer email address in your unsubscribe form with the required email field for your Zapier search step.
After you have configured your search step, move on to step three to update your Nutshell Lead.
Find your recently created custom field, and choose 'Yes' in the value field.
Don't forget to turn on your Zap once it's working! Once created, you'll never need to reconfigure your Zap again.
Step 4: Pin a list of unsubscribed customers to your dashboard for easy management
Inside of Nutshell, visit your Lead list and filter your list to view Leads updated with the Custom field 'Unsubscribed: Yes'. You can click here for more instructions on how to filter your Leads list.
Save your filters by clicking the green 'Save' button in the upper-right corner. Give your list a name like 'Unsubscribed' or something else.
Once saved, you can pin this list to your dashboard for easy management. Nutshell lists are dynamic, so any time a Lead unsubscribes from your emails, it will appear on your dashboard card. When a new Lead appears on your card, you can manually remove their email address from Nutshell so you do not risk emailing them again.
Click here for complete instructions on creating dashboard cards.
You can alternately filter out your unsubscribed contacts when sending bulk emails from Nutshell by filtering out your Leads which have unsubscribed

Now, you can get back to sending emails to the right prospects with confidence, and remain compliant with your organizations opt-out requirements. Please let us know if you have any questions by emailing support@nutshell.com.
