Installments are available on Nutshell Business and above.
Track revenue in the way it actually happens in your business—not just when a deal is marked as won.
Many deals are paid in stages over time, and Revenue installments let you represent that clearly on each lead. Instead of treating a deal as a single total value, you can split it into scheduled payments so it’s easier to see how revenue is expected to come in over time.
This gives you a clearer view of what’s coming, what’s been collected, and what hasn’t come through yet, all in one place.
Getting started
You can add installments directly from a lead. Open the lead and look for the Revenue section on the right side. From there, select Add installments:
Inside the dialog, you can quickly set up a schedule or build it manually.
Use Quick select (3, 6, or 12 installments) to split the total value evenly
Or add installments one by one using Add installment
You can adjust each installment’s date, description, and amount to match how the deal is structured.
By default, Nutshell sets the first installment based on the lead’s close date, then spaces out the rest evenly. You can adjust any date at any time to better reflect your agreement.
How installments are tracked
Once set up, installments move through a few simple states that help you understand what’s happening at a glance:
Collected - An installment is marked as collected once its due date has passed on a won lead. In the Revenue installments view, collected items show with a check indicator, and in the completion bar they appear as a darker green section. This happens automatically based on the installment’s due date and the lead being marked as won.
Planned - These are future payments on a won lead. These represent revenue that is still expected but has not yet reached its due date. In the completion bar, planned installments appear as unfilled or lighter green sections.
Failed - Failed installments are used when a payment was not received. These are not automatic. You need to manually mark an installment as failed using the flag option on the installment. Once marked, the completion bar reflects this in red for that installment.
Pipeline - Installments on open leads sit in the pipeline state. These are treated as potential future revenue, but nothing is marked as collected until the lead is won. In the completion bar, pipeline installments appear unfilled, gray.
Managing installments
You can reopen the installments modal at any time to update or adjust your schedule as things change. Click the completion bar to access the dialog:
or you can click the installment tag at the top:
From each installment row, you can:
Edit the date, description, or amount directly
Delete a single installment
Delete all installments if you want to clear the schedule
If your installment total doesn’t match the lead value, you’ll see a warning icon on the completion bar.
Keeping installment schedules accurate
Installments update automatically based on their due dates, but they still reflect your payment structure — not external payment confirmation.
This means:
due dates moving forward will automatically shift installments into collected when the lead is won
but payment status (especially failed payments) still needs to be updated manually
if a payment is received later than expected or not received at all, you may need to adjust the installment to reflect that
This helps keep your revenue view aligned with what’s actually been collected, not just what was scheduled.
See installments across all your deals
The Installments report helps you understand how revenue is spread across time.
You can find it under Reports > Installments, where you’ll see planned, collected, failed, and pipeline values displayed over time.
The chart plots these values by month, and you can switch to Quantity to view counts instead of dollar amounts.
You can also choose to include open leads in the view. When this is turned on, pipeline values are added to the chart. By default, this is turned off so the report focuses on committed revenue from won leads.
Below the chart, the Details tab gives you a breakdown of the same information in a table format, making it easy to review or compare specific results.
You can download the report as a CSV or save it to share with your team, just like other Nutshell reports.
Add installment columns to your leads list
You can also surface installment information directly in your leads list to maintain visibility while working day-to-day.
Available columns include:
Total number of installments
Installment value
Collected value
Planned value
Failed installments
These columns can be sorted and filtered to help you spot payments that are ahead, behind, or need attention.
